Lasagna gardening

This is a repost from last year but it is a subject I often get asked about so definately worth repeating:

I hate digging out sod.  What a pain.

I was THRILLED to discover lasagna gardening and after several successful garden installations using this method, I can honestly say it works fabulous.

How do you do it?

Don’t dig out the sod for a new bed.  Instead lay a thick covering of newspaper (approximately 6 sheets thick) or cardboard over the area and wet it down. Then add 15  inches of good loam on top.  The grass and the paper will decompose in six to eight weeks but you can plant your bed immediately.

Voila! Easy peasy.
