Cutting back ornamental grasses.

I love to use ornamental grasses.  They are beautiful in the summer and they add great winter interest to the landscape.  The one thing that can be a little tricky about them is that they have a tendency to make a big mess when you cut them down in the spring.  As the years have gone by, I have learned a couple of tricks to make the task easier.

1.  Start by wrapping the grass tight with either masking tape, a bungee cord or string.

2. Use an old bread cutting knife to cut through the bottom.

3.  Compost and your done!

Here are a couple picture from my own backyard using ornamental grasses.
