#4 on my favourite list for Ottawa gardens

Boxwoods (Buxus) are fantastic for giving structure and they work great as a back drop in the garden.  Boxwoods are also easy to trim and respond well to pruning. The dark green leaves hold all winter providing much-needed interest in our Ottawa gardens.  I like the texture of boxwood paired with barberries.  Most boxwoods are zone 5 so I don’t suggest planting them in raised beds or planters.  They do much better directly in the garden bed in Ottawa.

My favourite cultivars are:  Buxus ‘Green Mountain’ and Buxus ‘Green Velvet’.

(Big thanks to Iseli nursery for allowing the use of their photos)
