Creating a sitting area on a budget

My need to design and create space in my own yard has not always been at a time when the budget has allowed for landscaping.  In order to find ways to keep designing, I had to get creative.

In 2007, my husband and I created a sitting area and pathway at the back of our yard made with scrap pieces of granite counter top and pea gravol.  We called around to local granite couter stores in our area and asked if they had any scrap pieces that they would be willing to give us.  It turns out they were very happy to share the extras.  In fact they usually have to pay to dispose of the pieces they cannot use so the more we took the better.

Here are some pics from 2007 when we did the back garden granite path and sitting area.

I do not recommend this idea for any area that you will be walking on in slippery weather.  The granite does get slick.  This works great for us at the back of our yard because this is a sitting area that is just used in sunny weather.
