Ants and peonies

What is the deal with all the ants on my peonies?

Peony flowers have a sweet substance that ants like to collect.  Ants do not harm peonies. They are also not necessary for the peony to flower.  Peonies will bloom on their own when they are ready.  Ants do help out the peonies by keeping other plant-eating insects away.

My take on it.  Let nature be.  Enjoy the interaction for what it is.  In the long run is does not pose any problems to your plant or the garden.  Your peony will not attract an army of ants from far away, the ants that will be visible are the ones that already existed in the garden area.
