‘Globosa’ blue spruce adds year round beauty.

Ottawa is in the middle of a snow storm once again.  With the snow a constant presence in our winter landscape, the task of how to bring winter interest into the garden is always one of my design considerations.  One of my favourite plants for winter interest is Picea pungens ‘Globosa’.  The gray-blue needles are an outstanding colour and this conifer is always stunning when the sun shines.  This dwarf spruce  has a rounded shape and tolerates urban conditions very well.  As you can see from the picture it also brings beauty when matched with summer flowering perennials such as bee balm.
